Sigma Theta Tau on the IUPUI campus in Indianapolis, IN has an Immediate openning for a Unix Specialist. Oct. 1997 Position Description: Reports to the Director of the Virginia Henderson International Nursing Library, http://www.stti.iupui.edu/library/. Manage Library's Solaris based server. Develop internet and multimedia based services for STTI members including the Registry of Nursing Research at http://www.stti.iupui.edu/rnr/. This is not an Indiana University position. Major Duties and Responsibilies: A. Programmer for the Library: Perl, CGI, SQL, C, Java, HTML. B. Manage and analyze the UNIX based Library computer and Internet services such as HTTP, DNS, SMTP. C. Serve as back-up to Novell Specialist. Tasks including, but not limited to: A. Act as System administrator for Sun Server and Sybase SQL Server. B. Analyze, maintain, back-up Library Computer Network and Database. C. Assess computing needs, including periodic upgrading of hardware and software and make purchasing recommendations. D. Write software and program system enhancements for the efficient operation of the Electronic Library. E. Provide technical assistance to users for trouble-shooting problems of the Electronic Library. F. Serve as back-up to the Novell Network Specialist during times of illness. G. Assist with Library related functions as needed, including demonstrating the Library to visitors. H. Attend professional meetings and represent and demonstrate the Library as appropriate. I. Prepare regular and accurate reports for Direcor of Library. J. Creative and entrepreneurial in meeting the needs of nursing constituency. Requirements: A. Baccalaureate degree in computer science, computer technology or equivalent experience. B. Experience with web servers, preferably Apache. C. Experience in UNIX based environment. D. Knowledge and ability to learn various programming languages especially Perl, SQL, C, Java, HTML. Must be very knowledgeable in Perl. E. Able to travel for continuing education programs. F. Skills in operating information systems. G. Ability to assist in evaluating and purchasing of software and hardware. H. Excellent verbal, written, and inter-personal skills. I. Ability to complete assigned tasks and cooperate as a team member. May need to supervise programmers for contract work. J. Strives for excellence, especially in meeting the needs of the Society's staff and Library users. K. Takes initiative and works with minimal supervision. L. Works effectively with deadlines. M. Good problem solving skills.
